Visiting Kuta In Bali – The Ultimate Guide

Last Updated: November 2 2020

Kuta is one of Bali’s most popular tourist destinations. Kuta is an area of Bali well known for its beach and tourist resorts. We spent a week here. The first 4 days were at the start of our time in Bali and the other 3 were before we flew out. Kuta is also a really convenient place to stay for the airport, with Ngurah Rai Airport only being a 10 minute drive away. In this post ‘A guide to Kuta’ we will talk about food options, places to stay and things to do for your visit to Bali.

It is a great place to visit for a number of reasons. There is loads to do. You can swim in the sea, surf/body board, release sea turtles and hang out in some cool bars/clubs. We stayed here during our 1 month visit to Bali so it wasn’t the only place we stayed. We believe this is the best way to experience Kuta. As much as we enjoyed our time here we did enjoy other places a lot more. It is a good place to stay for a holiday or travelling however you will definitely want to go and see more of Bali too.

This guide will hopefully give you all you need for planning a trip to Kuta. We will also include a list of other places to easily visited from Kuta.

Things To Do:

With Kuta being such a popular spot you will never be short of things to do. The top of your list should be releasing sea turtles. This is a completely one off experience that is totally amazing. The Bali Sea Turtle Society are doing a brilliant job of releasing sea turtles into the sea.

Most days at 3pm they gather people to help the release. You just need to give a donation of any size before being allowed to take part. Then at 4pm the staff will give you a plastic box with your turtle in. Be sure to follow the rules set out beforehand to ensure the turtle is safely released. You can then enjoy the moment and watch on in amazement as hundreds of the beautiful creatures make there way home. The best way to find out if the release is happening that day is on the Bali Sea Turtle Society Facebook page.

Surfing and Body Boarding:

Surfing and body boarding is another fun thing to do in Kuta. Bali is well known for its surfing. There are number of popular spots where you can have a go, Kuta being one of them. Like most places in Bali you will want to haggle for the price. You will not be short of people offering you body boards/surfboards all the way along the beach. The boards are available to rent by hour. However we managed to haggle to just get the boards for as long as we wanted. In Kuta we body boarded for 2 hours. This cost us around £10 for both boards. The good thing about this was that we could get out of the water and have a break before going back in. In total we had the boards for approximately 3 hours.

Partying:

Kuta is one of Bali’s partying hot spots. We aren’t the biggest party goers but if you are then Kuta is a great destination for you. There are so many great bars and also some clubs. The Sky Garden Bali is one bar/club. The Sky Garden has lounges you can rent for the evening and plenty of dj’s. Downstairs also has a 3,000 capacity club complete with laser lighting.

Another good place to enjoy some drinks and a party in Kuta is at the Hard Rock Cafe. The Hard Rock Cafe is a more expensive place to go but you are guaranteed a good time. The Hard Rock Cafe is also a hotel. It is expensive but if you want a more luxurious holiday then this could be the one.

Food:

Kuta does not disappoint when it comes to food choices, there is so much to choose from! For this post ‘a guide to Kuta’ we are going to talk about the different food options that are available.

You will find all sorts  ranging from fast food to local Asian cuisine. There are some great sports bars that do awesome burgers. The price of food also differs quite a lot you can can get great cheap meals (roughly £1 each) or you can go to more expensive restaurants that might cost £5-£6 a meal. When we were in Kuta we ate Italian, Chinese, Indonesian and fast food. One thing we also enjoyed here was Bali’s famous smoothie bowls.

Accommodation:

When writing a guide to Kuta, it is obviously a must to talk about accommodation options. There are so many places you can stay in Kuta. Some are very cheap and you get what you expect whilst some are very expensive. Here are some options for you depending on how much you want to spend. The low budget costs £13 a night for a deluxe double room. A medium priced hotel like Adi Dharma will cost you £35 a night for a superior room. The high budget hotel and one we would definitely love to pay money to stay in is the Amnaya Resort Kuta. This high price hotel costs around £70 a night The villa option is a 3 bedroom villa that sleeps 6 people. This costs £100 a night.

Low Budget: OYO Flagship 760 Oasis Kuta
Medium Budget: Adi Dharma Hotel
High Budget/Luxury: Amnaya Resort Kuta
Luxury Option: Karlamanda Villa

Where you stay and how much you spend could really vary depending on the type of trip you are on. If you are travelling and want to do as much as you can then it may be best to take the cheaper option. This is what we would do. However if you are going on a holiday then a higher priced hotel might suit you more. If we were going on holiday to Bali then the medium or high budget hotel would more than likely be our choice. The villa would be a great choice if you are travelling with friends or simply have high budget yourself.

Other Destinations:

From Kuta you can easily get to some other great locations in Bali. Canggu, Ubud and Seminyak are just some of the places you could also check out. We also went to Uluwatu which is another cool Bali spot you may want to look at.
